Here is what I like - your championing and living into a space that probably is not for everyone. No space is. But when you write about it, you expand for your readers what is possible in the world. The world is always more spacious than we first thought. Thank you for bearing witness to the space we need.

What a lovely thing to say! Thank you for this, it's exactly what I aspire to do.

I subscribed after the last post, because I am too getting dismissed, together with all my team, at the end of this year, as our jobs will be sliced into tasks and sent to a cheaper country, before getting automated (it's what it seems like). I thought a long-term contract would bring me stability, and here I am. I am wondering what else I could do with my life, if this is the time to face my fears and not look for another full-time, since even that is not secure as I hoped. I am curious of what I will do, and you are a great inspiration. Very real! I appreciate that. Have a great day!

Hi Rosie, some questions:

~ How much of your book did you have written when you started querying agents?

~ What was your process/heroine's journey for finding your agent and why are they the right fit for you specifically?

~ What is something that is now startlingly obvious to you about selling a book that you had no idea about before?

~ How did your book change from proposal to final draft/submitted manuscript?

~ Can you share what your first book was about and why it didn't make it?

Thanks for your wisdom sharing!

Thank you for the shoutout, Rosie! Your newsletter is my favorite. Can’t wait for people to hold How To Not Know in their hands :).

Congratulations on turning in your manuscript. I’m still working on my draft but will hand it off to my editor in two weeks. I’m leaning towards self publishing though.

Hey Rosie, The link to the NYT article about identity took me to an article about Dubai. Was it supposed to go to a different article? I'm interested, because like you, I live in a different country from where I grew up. Can you point me to the article again? It doesn't need to be a gift link, just the name of the article. Thank you!

That’s the correct piece, Heide! It will begin to make sense as you read

Ok, thanks! I’ll read it now.

Sometimes when people insinuate writing or other creative careers are useless because they wouldn't help in the apocalypse, I remind myself that being a CPA or coder or other job that's seen as more "useful" also won't do much good if society collapses. A very generous response to a question I also hope was in good faith!

Thank you. Also, the point is that creative careers tend to leave more time for other stuff: building gardens, villages, networks, projects etc etc. It gives you more of a chance to be rooted in the world around you, rather than the internet world. Which has never been more important imo.

Couldn't agree more!

Are you serious that so-called creative people will be able to contribute better in this future environment than people with actual skills?

That together with some previous comments and your espousing how wonderful the Minnesotans were in preventing illegal immigrants - including rapists and murderers - from being detained was unfortunately the last straw. You are truly deluded, goodbye.

Yes, I am serious. If you'd like to stop reading and unsubscribe, feel free!
