Creativity in the dark half of the year

A Live conversation with Anna Brones

Here’s a recording of my conversation with Anna Brones of Creative Fuel from last night. The audio isn’t that great on my side, so sorry about that. (I blame the fireworks that were being set off in my neighborhood thanks to bonfire night!)

Anna and I talked about the respective creative seasons we’re in; some references of different seasonal models that inspire us; how we resist the pressure to be creatively productive at all times; the different ways we approach the boom and bust nature of creativity; and answering the big questions like how do we stay human, and who do we want to be in these dark times?

I mentioned Chloe George’s newsletter Being and Moving, which is where I learned about the Celtic Wheel, also called the English Folk Wheel. You can read about that — and her paid offering which meets every six weeks in line with these seasonal turning points — here.

I also mentioned this beautiful depiction of the Celtic wheel from artist Danielle Barlow, which sits on my desk.

Here is Kurt Vonnegut’s “six seasons” theory, which I love.

Thanks to the 100+ people who joined us! You can subscribe to Anna’s great Substack here:
